iPod dock question

Today I helped my Mom get a 40GB iPod after the hard drive of her POS Creative Jukebox Player 2 died for the second time. I also experienced the joy of opening her Dell Dimension 4800 (no screwdriver needed to open the case---I love that) to install a PCI Firewire card.

Anyway, as for the dock, there was a question on whether it was ok to keep it plugged into the PC even if the iPod was not connected to it.

Yes, that is fine. I keep mine plugged in most of the time.

Yes, the dock is supposed to be plugged in to the computer all the time. The sole reason the dock exists is to avoid plugging and unplugging a firewire cable in and out of the port on the card.

Wow, computer cases which don't need screwdrivers to be opened?! What will they think of next?!
