Belkin MiniWireless Optical Mouse

I picked up one of these puppies while at the store last weekend. It's USB based wireless (RF) optical mouse and I thought that it would be a better solution than the current wired USB mouse I use on the PowerBook.

It wasn't until I opened up the package at home and plugged the USB reciever into the PowerBook that I noticed the package system requirements only listed Windows PCs. Whoops.

Undeterred, I continued with installation and it works perfectly on OS X. The only complaint I have about the mouse is that it is small. I mean really small. (And my hands are petite with a size 4.5 ring finger.) Thusly, the mouse is usable for a few hours, but I'd hate to see what trouble others with much larger hands could run into.

I have very large hands and fat, short fingers, and I actually prefer the small mouse.

I blogged about it a while back:

I have an MS wireless keyboard, but for some reason, the mouse acts up and the batteries don't last too long. It feels like a baseball bat compared to the smaller mice.

Most USB HID devices (mice, keyboards, etc.) will work on any USB platform without any drivers, the only caveat being that Windows USB keyboards reverse the position of alt and cmd, which can be a major pain for Mac users. (Logitech keyboards come with a driver which swaps the keys back on the Mac.)

Even for other devices which have a standard USB device mapping (printers, cameras, Bluetooth dongles, etc.) usually work on Mac as a matter of course, though some devices made by ultra-cheap people tend to not actually follow the spec because rather than just use the existing drivers they think it's better to make their own (even though that makes it more expensive to engineer etc.).

I don't know what's up with the industry maybe it needs a revolution like the one that the mac mouse had on the relation with the hand and eye..
I fancy were stuck with the USB mouse for the time being but I would not mind a clever portable design NOT reduced in size..
