A Must win?

I happened to stumble across this last night while looking for information about the latest polls and my jaw nearly dropped - especially since Howard Dean has said that Wisconsin is his "must win" state. From Daily Kos.

Out of Wisconsin. University of Wisconsin Badger Poll (PDF).
MoE 4%. 1/27-2/3.
Kerry 35
Clark 11
Edwards 9
Dean 8
This is Dean's must-win state. To make matters worse, Dean's favorable/unfavorable/don't know numbers are 18/34/46. Kerry's are 42/18/39. Dean's high unfavorables everywhere give him little room to manouver.

Barring pictures of Kerry with a bimbo in his lap, Dean's out of it. The real nail in his coffin is the poll that shows Kerry leading Bush by nine percent while Dean trails Bush by seven percent (when matched one-on-one.) It's hard to imagine the party faithful ignoring that when the margin is so wide. Essentially 16% of the electorate would go to the other side were Dean to run. (If the election were held today, polls are meaningless, yadda yadda yadda.)

If you look at the details, it's that Dean's negatives (fair or otherwise) are through the roof.

Looks like I'll be casting my vote for Kerry...unless the media savage him the same way they've savaged Dean and screw HIM out of a the Democratic nomination.

So far, they seem disinclined to. They seem to be setting their sights on Bush these days.
