workblog (hee hee)
I'm a bit early for work and my class doesn't start until 10am so I am sitting here in the lab with nothing much to do. I figure that I'll blog about work.
So, like I will be teaching people about PowerPoint this morning for two hours. My handout is copied (eight pages), I've gotten something one the whiteboard about the class and the machines are on and ready to go.
When I start the class, I usually tell the class a little about myself and then launch into my rules about class (that this is the place to ask questions) and give the students a brief overview on what to expect.
I espouse an unusual approach to teaching software, since I think about it conceptually. So, what happens is that I cover what the software is supposed to accomplish and point out what all of the little buttons on the toolbars do. It is only after that do I lead the students through hands on exercises. Other instructors I know will lead the class through exercises teaching the functionality bit by bit, an approach that always frustrated me in school. I guess it just depends on what one is comfortable with.
Anyway, that is enough of my instructional style for the morning. It is almost 9.40 and I'm sure that someone will come walking in soon.
