Question
Is there a male version of the word "barista" or are guys baristas too?
My four years of high school Italian indicate that there should be a male version of the noun, but hey, I could be wrong.
Update: Here is a guide to pluralizing Italian nouns. Apparently the word barista is an exception so it's either female/male, la barista/il barista or in the plural form, le bariste/i baristi.
Just to remark about the state of foreign language learning in the United States, I'm always a little dubious of my Italian because I was taught formal Italian rather than colloquial Italian. In fact, when I went to take Italian at the university level, I was blown away in class because everybody else could speak it colloquially and I couldn't (I was the only one that came from a home that didn't speak the language). So I totally missed the back and forth between the instructor and the students. And if you were wondering, I did go to school in New Jersey, so yeah, the cultural references in the Sopranos aren't too far off.
